Do the obvious - you know it, now do it!

Day 2 of the Wellington Essential Marketing Bootcamp and we are discussing the things that work. It always amases me how many people have great ideas for their business and just havent got around to doing it. We need to prioritise where we spend our time and do what works. We so often know what works (like phoning customers) and yet delay doing it! #TMCBC

All money comes from customers!

Posted at 4:33pm, Friday 13th November, 2009
All money comes from customers - knowing what ratio come from who and where is vital! So many people treat all customers the same yet the truth is not all customers are equal - A clients are more valuable than C clients and need to be treated as such. Having a plan that focuses your energies, time and money on customers proportionate to their vaule and importance will ensure that your energies are focused on what matters. You get more of what you focus on so focus on what you want! #TMCBC

Less is more!!

Posted at 3:37pm, Friday 13th November, 2009
Less is more!! This is a saying that is bantered around so much. How do you understand this! Here is an example. We know that in order to get a sale you need to contact your client five times or more. Too many people give up before 5 points of contact because they do not understand this. To help them understand we have just poised this question. If you could contact 100 times what would work better? contacting 100 people once or 20 people 5 times. Less people more results = less is more!! #TMCBC

Do what works

Posted at 3:11pm, Friday 13th November, 2009
Discussing the importance of doing what works and doing it! Everything from measuring what matters and doing it to ASKING good questions of clients, suppliers and team members. If you always do what you have always done you will always get what you always got. Do you want what you have or want something better? What will be required to change to get the outcome that works!

Have just shared with EMBC participants that Wise people learn from their mistakes, a genius learns from the mistakes of others! Live life like every day is your best day and make it so for your clients, teams, family everyone! #TMCBC

Breakthoughs starting!

Posted at 12:34pm, Friday 13th November, 2009
Ambrose here. We've had some significant debates already, especially around getting people focused on which of their products/services actually make them money. Most businesses should be more focused on less areas of their business when it comes to focusing on your core product/service offering.
We also need to be clear about WHY customers come to you. This is what gives you your competitive advantage. Tip: once you're clear on your competitive advantage, check with your internal team and then check with your clients to ensure that what you think your competitve advantage is and what they think it is is the same!
Once you're clear on that tell ... well, EVERYONE. One thing I was always in awe of when I was working at Proctor & Gamble was that it was 100% clear to all employees across all divisions and levels in the company what made P&G better than its competitors with both their brands and as an employer. If a company that big ($75Bn+ turnover) can do this, shouldnt small to medium enterprises be able to do the same?

Focus, understanding and priorities

Posted at 11:20am, Friday 13th November, 2009
Discussing the importance of 1) knowing how the 80/20 rules applies to each individual business and 2) Using this knowledge to help focus on what matters so that the areas that bring in the biggest return on investment of time and money get the 80% of investment they deserve.  Breaking down important aspects of your business into small steps in not always easy but once the descion is made the focus it gives is amazing focus and clarity. Reminds me of the quote "inch by inch life is a sinche yard by yard life is hard"

We are now breaking down plans and goals into customer ratios - great seeing the enlightenment of people as they see how many customers they need to achieve thier turnover goals. SWOT analysis next then into clarifying point of difference. This first quarter is theoretical while we build the base in knowledge and understanding around the foundtional elements of a marketing plan.#TMCBC
